If you're determined to break into the competitive world of screenwriting, this highly regarded Screen Academy Scotland course will maximise your chances. As well as giving you direction and guidance in developing and polishing ideas into finished scripts, you'll learn how the film, television and interactive media businesses operate. Practising industry professionals will guide your learning, providing valuable insight and contacts. By the end of the course, you'll have produced a portfolio of scripts that can be your calling card, an important tool for a new screenwriter when approaching producers or directors.

While your primary focus throughout the course will be developing your writing skills for moving media, secondary skills will also be addressed. This is a business that requires determination and discipline, and you'll learn motivational techniques, collaborative skills and confidence in presentation. Business issues are also covered, giving you insights into the financial and organisational processes of the industry.

You'll encounter plenty of competition on your way to a screenwriting career, but this qualification will ensure you're well-equipped to take advantage of every opportunity that may come your way. A number of modules within the course are shared with the MA Screen Project Development and will give you the opportunity to meet up-and-coming producers, development executives and script editors. Past students of this course have made contacts with visiting industry speakers, received commissions and won prizes.

The number of modules studied is dependant on the exit that you wish to achieve, for example:

  • A Grad Cert is 60 Credits (3 modules)
  • A Cert HE/Grad Dip/ HND is 120 credits (6 modules)
  • A Dip HE credit is 240 credits (12 modules)
  • A Degree is 360 credits (18 modules)
  • An Honours Degree is 480 credits

Please note that some part-time courses give modular exemptions for previous study and vocational experience. Advice is available during application.
