Your broad knowledge of both sociology and psychology will open up a wide range of career opportunities. If you choose to major in psychology you may, after completing a postgraduate qualification, go on to find work in one of the specialist areas of psychology.
Should you major in Sociology, you may choose to undertake research in areas such as sociology of health, or of the environment. Alternatively, you may prefer to enter postgraduate studies and explore more fully an area that was touched on in your degree course, such as computing or statistics. You may also choose specialist training in careers guidance, social work, teaching or human resource management.
Your direct-to-work path will most likely take you into the social and helping professions, with a wide range of options, from personnel manager to youth worker. You may also use your skills in areas such as marketing and market research, occupational therapy, sales, and personnel management.
The significant emphasis on research in this course equips you with the knowledge and skills required to continue on to postgraduate study, including possible PhD study within the school and a further academic career.
