Flexible learning options
We understand that full-time study is not for everybody. Perhaps you have home commitments, or work full-time – or maybe you just want to immerse yourself in something that interests you. Either way, we have a course to suit you.
Degree options
Many of our degree courses are offered part-time, via distance learning or completely online. Have a search and see how you can study the degree you choose.
Part-time
You will study the same modules, and complete the same course work as a full-time student, but over a longer period of time. You’ll generally come in to University for one day or one / two evenings per week, and a four-year Honours degree will take around six years to complete part-time.
Distance
Identical in duration and content to a part-time course, this option replaces campus attendance with specially developed printed and online learning materials. You can study at your own pace, in your own time.
Blended
This part-time option combines online learning with attendance at the occasional seminar or workshop on campus. It’s ideal if you want to organise your own time, but remain part of the on-campus learning environment.
Work based
We offer a work-based MSc in Strategic ICT Leadership, and are looking to offer other courses, where learning and study takes place at work or draws on your workplace experience. Content and assessment are tailored to meet your learning needs, and attendance of no more than one day per month is required.
Local
Some courses are even taught at local colleges, such as Carnegie, West Lothian and Telford. You’ll be enrolled as an Edinburgh Napier student, but won’t have to travel.
Part-time study - full-time facilities
Whichever part-time option you choose, you’ll have full access to all of our study resources and IT facilities, including libraries (open seven days a week), free secure Wifi on all sites, and the Jack Kilby Computing Centre (open 24/7 in our two main teaching trimesters).
The online library services puts the libraries’ collections at your fingertips, allowing you to carry out routine tasks like renewing books & searching the catalogue at a time that suits you. We have a huge and ever-growing collection of electronic journals and other resources, available on campus or off. And we also have strong links with other libraries throughout the city, if you’re doing more specialist Honours or research work.
Courses for business
Businesses require courses that are tailored to meet their needs in both content and delivery style.
We understand that, and can provide the right course for you.
