Developed to meet the demands of the modern construction industry, this course incorporates current construction techniques and explores the latest regulatory and commercial issues. You'll build on your existing qualifications or experience in this area to develop a good knowledge of architectural technology, building performance and the laws that govern the industry. The course offers a well balanced blend of theory and practice which prepares you for the workplace. So you'll gain a broad understanding of the construction industry but also learn how to apply this to create design solutions.

The course is built around the knowledge and current applied research of three of the University's key research units; the Building Performance Centre, Scottish Energy Centre and the Centre for Timber Engineering. You'll study taught modules which provide you with the knowledge and experience required to complete a major design project and continue on to a successful career in construction.

The Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists confirms that this is an approved Masters programme and graduates who gain this award meet the Institute’s requirements for Associate membership for progression to Chartered Membership.

As well as the knowledge base that the course provides you with, you will also gain transferable skills in research, communication, organisation, problem solving and presentation.

Part-time study

The number of modules studied is dependent on the exit that you wish to achieve, for example:

  • A Grad Cert is 60 Credits (3 modules)
  • A Cert HE/Grad Dip/ HND is 120 credits (6 modules)
  • A Dip HE credit is 240 credits (12 modules)
  • A Degree is 360 credits (18 modules)
  • An Honours Degree is 480 credits

Please note that some part-time courses give modular exemptions for previous study and vocational experience. Advice is available during application.
