The time is ripe for a generation of scholars and practitioners of acupuncture who are able to reconcile the traditional with the evidence-based approach; navigate different domains of knowledge in a balanced way; compare global perspectives on their discipline and analyse the spectrum of opinion on acupuncture within Oriental and Western cultures. This course has been designed to help you become just such a scholar or practitioner. Your tutors will include experienced practitioners in a variety of healthcare disciplines as well as specialists in the sciences and social sciences.

This course will develop your self-awareness and confidence in skills transferable to professional life. You will be able to critically evaluate the bases of beliefs and compare different scientific, ethical and personal positions. Graduates are eligible to sit for the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists (CTCMA) provincial registration exam to earn the title of Registered Acupuncturist (RAc) in British Columbia. This distinction allows acupuncturists to practice throughout Canada. Graduates may also sit for the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) acupuncture examination and thus be licensed in the majority of US states.

Education to BSc level will enhance your understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of your chosen discipline as well as enhancing your confidence in the deployment of specific and generic skills. The skills you gain will prepare you for work in a number of areas.

Part-time study

The number of modules studied is dependent on the exit that you wish to achieve, for example:

  • A Grad Cert is 60 Credits (3 modules)
  • A Cert HE/Grad Dip/ HND is 120 credits (6 modules)
  • A Dip HE credit is 240 credits (12 modules)
  • A Degree is 360 credits (18 modules)
  • An Honours Degree is 480 credits

Please note that some part-time courses give modular exemptions for previous study and vocational experience. Advice is available during application.
